Cancer Survivors

Just read a story about one woman's cancer experience. I bet everyone has a story about what goes through your mind when you are told you have cancer. Her thought were about her stunned family members, one crying and the other in shock. I bet there are quite a few stories that could be qualitatively studied. Those experiences could help nurses better help patients during this time.

Hi Im a 30year old mom of 3 (aged 9, 6 and 4), i was diagnosed on 28th sep 2012 with ceacum cancer, this was discovered after a routine apendicitis which was not really routine and took 2.5hrs and was the size of a bbq sausage. I have had test done and now found out my cancer is due to HNPCC. My cancer has spread through the lymphnodes and to the liver. the cells were pooly defined and histology said it was High Grade (so ive looked up and basically i have the most aggresive cancer you can have). Ive tried looking to see if anyone has cancer caused by HNPCC that has spread and what has happened with them. I have had a right hemi colectomy and will be getting some of my liver removed in a couple of weeks followed by chemo - they have told me i need a special chemo as my cancer will not respond to normal chemo and i have a 1 in 3 chance of cancer responding to chemo. so if there are any survivors with the same situation please reply. thanks sophie

Prevalence and Spectrum of Germline Cancer Susceptibility Gene Mutations Among Patients With Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer

Key Points Question    What is the frequency and spectrum of cancer susceptibility gene mutations among patients with colorectal cancer diagnosed at younger than 50 years? Findings    In this cohort study of 450 patients with early-onset colorectal cancer, 72 (16%) had a pathogenic mutation. Panel testing identified mutations in patients that may have otherwise been missed; specifically, 24 of 72 patients (33.3%) who were mutation positive did not meet testing criteria for the gene(s) in which they had a mutation.
